Letter: York County program adds up to savings (May 29, 2008)

 Editor:
During the week of April 23 to May 2, the York County community was introduced to the newest initiative of York County Community Action’s CASH Campaign (Creating Assets Savings and Hope): York County Saves! The program encourages everyone to save and promotes the “power of small change” that adds up to big savings, savings York County residents can use to achieve their hopes and dreams. This may include buying a home or reliable car, saving for a child’s education, getting out of debt or saving for next year’s heating bill. There are many good reasons to save.
York County Saves has the support of Maine State Treasurer David Lemoine, for which we are very appreciative. The successful kick-off of the program could not have been possible without the support of financial institutions doing business in York County.
We are also grateful for the support of Sanford Institution for Savings, Bangor Savings Bank, Kennebunk Savings Bank, Key Bank, Rivergreen Bank and York County Federal Credit Union. Each of these financial institutions promoted program enrollment by offering low or no cost savings accounts and donated U.S. Savings Bonds to be raffled to enrollees who demonstrate long-term savings. They also provided financial support. As a result of their involvement hundreds of customers learned about York County Saves and had the opportunity to enroll as York County Savers at more than 40 branch offices throughout York County.
York County Saves is an ongoing campaign. York County residents are always welcome to enroll and will receive a quarterly newsletter from America Saves with strategies and success stories from saves members across the country, sign up for e-wealth coaching and receive information about wealth building resources locally and online. The CASH Campaign, York County Saves and its partners will continue to build opportunities, share information and develop resources to help all York County individuals and families achieve their dreams.
