Letter: Trek benefits Maine people (May 15, 2008)
Editor:
On June 13 through 15, I will be participating in the 24th Annual Trek Across Maine to benefit the American Lung Association. It is a 180-mile bike tour from Sunday River Ski Resort in Bethel to Belfast.
There are over 2,100 people registered to ride in this years trek. They are all riding to benefit the people of Maine. Nearly 90 percent of the funds raised will stay in our state. The remainder will support nationwide education and research.
This will be my second Trek. I participated last year as a promise I made to my uncle Barry before he died from a tragic accident.
He was a rider, a lover of the trek, and he was a man who loved to help people. I will ride once again in his memory along with our 10 member family and friends team “Bear With Us.”
In order to participate each rider is required to raise a minimum of $500. My goal this year is to raise $1,000. In order to do this I need the help of the community and I am hoping you may be able to help out.
