Beryl Beattie Reeks

BerylBeattie Reeks, 95, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2008 surrounded by her lovingfamily.

Shewas born May 17, 1912 in Sanford, the eldest of seven children born to Edwardand Thirzah (Tebbetts) Beattie.

Shewas a member of North Parish Congregational Church. She was involved in manyorganizations including the Eastern Star, Girl Scouts, Red Cross Motor Corpsduring World War II and the Goodall Hospital Auxiliary. She was also a PastRegent of the Daughters of the American Revolution and a member of the Sons andDaughters of Nathan Lord.  Berylwas a supporter of many charitable organizations.

Shemarried Walter Reeks in 1934 and together they raised three daughters. In theirlater years, they traveled between homes in Maine and Florida. She enjoyedcooking, entertaining, reading, family and her kitties. She was a devoted wife,mother, sister and Nana. She was admired, loved and respected by her family andfriends and will be sadly missed by all. Her devoted granddaughter Sara-Janespent many years visiting with her and assisting with her care.

Sheis predeceased by her husband Walter, brother Edward Beattie, sister BeatriceBeattie and sister Beverly Vezina.

Sheis survived by her daughters Rebecca Svendsen and her husband Arthur ofFlorida, Mary-Ellen Normand and her husband Roland of Springvale, Sarah Cloughand her fiancé Tony Calabro of Florida, her siblings Bryce Beattie and his wifeAbbott of North Berwick, Tirzah MacKay of Sanford, Dr. Charles Beattie and hiswife Georgia of Sanford. She was the loving Nana of seven grandchildren, RandySmall of Washington, Ellen Guerin and her husband Mark of Florida, Sara-JaneNormand of Sanford, Jonathan Normand of Cape Elizabeth, Erin Therrien and herhusband Jeffrey of Springvale, Matthew Clough of Florida and Genna Clough ofCalifornia

Aprivate graveside service will be held in the spring at Oakdale Cemetery inSanford. Arrangements are under the direction of the Carll-Heald & BlackFuneral Home, 580 Main Street, Springvale.

Juliette R. Beaubien

JulietteR. Beaubien, 83, died peacefully in the comfort of her home with her family byher side, Tuesday, Feb. 19, 2008.

  She was born in Hamnord, Quebec, Canada Nov. 6, 1924 a daughter ofSinai and Maria (Cloutier) Morin and came to the United States to live with hergrandmother when she was 12 years old.

  Juliette went to work in the local mills at the age of sixteen tohelp the family. She would carry this dedication and work ethic throughout herentire life. For many years, she owned and operated “Julie’s Lunch” – homemadegoodies and lunches she prepared the “ole fashion way” – and delivered themthrough out Sanford/Springvale area and towards Alfred and Waterboro. Mrs.Beaubien also worked at the Strawberry Patch in Springvale and at NassonCollege.

  Juliette had a terrific sense of humor and loved to play tricks onthe unsuspecting. One of her classic lines when she was out and about with herlunch wagon was, “Double or nothing.” She enjoyed trips to Foxwoods and a fewyears back, traveled with her daughters to Las Vegas. A self-sufficient woman,Juliette could do just about anything around her home. She enjoyed her flowergardens, the computer and the world of opportunity and adventure she couldexplore on the net. Juliette never forgot her heritage; she loved French musicand was devoted to her husband, Joseph who had been disabled for 24 yearsbefore he died in 1993.

  She loved her children, the grandchildren and great-grandchildrenthat made her life full and complete. She will be remembered for her generousspirit and maintaining life long friendships.

  Family survivors include her son, Roger L. Beaubien of Waterboro;two daughters, Joanne Pelletier and husband Bob of Springvale and Susan Woycikand husband Frank of Ashaway, Rhode Island; three sisters, Ange-Aimee, Jeanneand Jeannine all of Canada; six grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren;several nieces and nephews and cousin and special friend, Edgar Chevalier ofSanford.

  She was predeceased by five brothers and one sister.

  Committal prayers and burial will be held later in the spring at St.Ignatius Cemetery.

Janet ShirleyPhipps Clarke

Janet Shirley Phipps Clarke, 65, of Sanford,passed from her husband’s hands into her loving Savior’s arms after ahard-fought battle with diabetes at the Gosnell Hospice House in Scarborough onSunday, Feb. 17, 2008.

Jan was born in Portland on Sept. 20, 1942 toOrrin H. and Elizabeth Sperry Phipps. She grew up in a loving home in Yarmouthand attended local schools. She graduated from North Yarmouth Academy and wenton to earn her BA in education from the University of Maine in Gorham. Shecontinued her course work in education throughout her life and in time, had theequivalent of a master’s degree. On Nov. 19, 1965, she married James DanielClarke, who remained her loving and faithful husband until her passing.

Mrs. Clarke lived her entire adult life inSanford. Her teaching career began at Longfellow Elementary School in Sanfordand would eventually take her through virtually every elementary school in theSanford/Springvale area. She was instrumental in beginning the English as asecond language (ESL) program in the Sanford school system.

Throughout her life, Jan actively supported herchildren, attending countless sporting events. She would also travel thousandsof miles to see them and their families. She was active in the fireman’sauxiliary, a sorority, and Sanford First Baptist and Curtis Lake ChristianChurches.

Surviving are her husband, Jim of Sanford; ason, James W. Clarke and his wife Becky of Dallas, Texas; a daughter, BethanySinclair and her husband Craig of Seattle, Wash.; her father, Orrin Phipps; abrother, Bill and his partner Pam Rogers; six grandchildren, Alyssa, Brianna,Daniel, Ellie, Matia and Aaron and many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grandnephews.

Interment will be in the spring at RiversideCemetery in Springvale. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorialcontributions be sent to establish a scholarship for further education in Jan’sname to the Principal’s Office for ESL Students, 52 Sanford High Blvd.,Sanford, ME 04073.

Lucianna P. Levesque

Lucianna“Lou” P. Levesque, 81, longtime resident of Dayton, died peacefully with herfamily by her side on Sunday, Feb. 17, 2008.

  She was born in Saco on April 16, 1926 to Ernest and Regina(Rouselle) Fournier and was raised and educated in her hometown. Lou was awoman with an indomitable spirit and worked from an early age at Bates Millthen at West Point Pepperell Mill where she worked as a Room Girl/Weaver. Herjob was very important, as if the material and yarns became twisted; she hadthe patience and skill to get things back to working order. Mrs. Levesqueretired from Corning Components. She always worked second shift, which enabledher to chambermaid at the coast to earn extra money for her family. She was marriedto Leon Levesque and was predeceased by him in 1973.

  Following retirement, Lou was fortunate to travel to Paris, Mexicoand visited many historic sites in the United States. Niagara Falls was amementoes occasion, as she loved the beauty of the falls and the spiritualeffects it had upon her. She enjoyed winters in Florida and was quite talentedwith a variety of arts and crafts. Mrs. Levesque was generous with her time andhelped many with financial hardships. She was devoted to her family, grandchildrenand her many friends and neighbors.

  She is lovingly survived by two daughters, Louise Williams of No.Waterboro; Elizabeth Raymond and husband Gerard of Dayton; her step-daughter,Joline Levesque of Oakland, CA; one brother, Royal Fournier of Saco; severalgrandchildren, great-grandchildren and many nieces.

  Mrs. Levesque was predeceased by a son, Lucien Levesque and by hersister, Margaret Ledoux.

 A private service will beheld with Br. Ted Letendre with Committal Prayers and burial later in the springat St. Joseph Cemetery in Biddeford.

Russell P. Vosburgh

RussellP. Vosburgh, ALJ, 60, of Waterboro and formerly of Gloversville, N.Y. diedsuddenly on Monday, Feb. 18, 2008 at his home.

  He was born Aug. 28, 1947 in Gloversville, NY a son of William andHelen Vosburgh, Jr. and served his country in the United States Army during theVietnam Era. Mr. Vosburgh received his paralegal degree and worked as anAdmistrative Law Judge in New York. He also owned a transportation company.

  Mr. Vosburgh believed in giving back to his community and served onmany organizational boards. They include serving as past Lt. Governor of theNew York District Kiwanis International Club; past president of Park TerraceSchool PTA; life member of the Boy Scouts of America and was an active memberof the Capital Area Paralegal Association of New York.

  While living in Maine with his companion, Marie Bean, he served onthe Board of Directors for the Sanford Food Pantry. They enjoyed each other’scompany for several years and it was in February of 2005 that Russell moved toMaine.

  Family survivors include his children, Jane Marie Vosburgh Provo;Jeffrey Peter Vosburgh; Jason Russell Vosburgh and JWilliam Vosburgh; hissiblings, George, Mary, Danielle, William, Rita, Betty and Anne; twelvegrandchildren; and his first wife, Noel Bovee.

  He was predeceased by his wife, Jane Nanette Morgan.

Eleanor T. Zelin

Eleanor T. Zelin, 91, of Sanford andformerly of Yonkers, N.Y., passed away Jan. 30, 2008 at the Newton Center inSanford. Born in Yonkers, New York March 27, 1916, she was a daughter of Martinand Sophie (Bonar) Zielinski. She attended local schools in Yonkers graduatingfrom the Commerce High School in 1933.

For 25 years Mrs. Zelin was employedas a bookkeeper with the Cucinall Electric Company in Yonkers. In 1988 shemoved to Sanford. She was a communicant of St. Ignatius Catholic Church.

Survivors include one daughter,Barbara Janz of Sanford as well as many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
