Police Notes for Jan. 24, 2008

SCREWED UP ROBBERY ATTEMPT
Sanford police received a call about a burglary in progress at the Super 8 Motel in south Sanford. The desk clerk told police she heard a noise and when she went to investigate, she interrupted a man trying to break into the office with a screwdriver. Police said the man fled, leaving the screwdriver behind. Police said the man did not gain access to the office. No money was taken and nobody was injured.
 
SEXUAL ASSAULT
A 24-year-old North Avenue man was arrested and charged with unlawful sexual contact with a 5-year-old girl. Police said the man was an acquaintance of the family.
 
IT WAS STOLEN?
A Littlefield Road resident called police to report a 2000 Dodge SUV parked in a field behind his house. Police said the vehicle had been stolen from a woman who did not know it was missing because she no longer drives and had parked it behind her residence.
 
DYEING TO GET CAUGHT
Police said a 17-year-old and an 18-year-old were summonsed for shoplifting at Hannaford. Police said they stole a couple of magazines, a box of Garnier hair dye and acne products for a total $51.92.
 
JUST WALK AWAY
Police responded to a disturbance on Crestwood Avenue in Springvale. The caller reported a man and woman arguing in the street, but when police arrived, both people walked away.
 
GRANDMA GRAB
A Roberts Street resident called police to report a domestic disturbance. Police said a grandmother was trying to take a child from a residence. Police said the grandmother left the house for the night and the 14-year-old stayed with his father.
 
GOOD NEIGHBOR
A caller reported to police that she had not seen her neighbor for a few days. Police said further investigation revealed the resident is currently a patient at Goodall Hospital.
 
ROBBERY
Police received a call from a North Avenue resident who said a man stumbled onto the porch with facial injuries and asking someone to call police because he had been robbed. Police said the 33-year-old victim said he had medications and $30 stolen from him. Police said it was unclear if the man’s injuries were from the alleged robbery or from falling. Police said they have a couple of individuals “of interest” in mind, but they are not classified as suspects.
